Bulgaria

Being from this country, I assume I have to start with it.

So spend most of my early years there, graduated there, etc.

But why did you leave, why, it must be a shit country, ah. No, never had a mental desire to leave Bulgaria to be honest.

First time abroad away for me was a summer spend in Washington, D.C. The usual stuff you could hear from me back then if you asked me how was it – all US people are fat and stupid. Very common assumption in Europe, I was part of it. Did I enjoy my stay – some parts yes, some no. The worst thing you could say is the above though. And later in life you realize it only, some people never do. That always makes me think – Europeans are super happy to listen to the music, watch the movies, use the tech stuff, etc. But ask them what they think – fat and stupid. Really? Like Really!

Was in a cultural shop once in The Netherlands, because of a new work position, and there was a task to describe countries in Europe. France comes, silence…I start – wine, love, blah blah bullshit. I said something bad they are famous for, forgot already what, everyone there was NO, can’t say this, blah blah. US comes…Everyone – fat and stupid. Really? Like Really!

Anyway, about my country. I will always like it. I like the food, the people most of them are usually friendly, a lot of nice places to visit. People are always grumpy looking, but deep inside we are ok. One funny thing for me – if you are local and ask for help, be told to fok off. If you ask in English though Mama Mia…Such doors open you can’t close them with a hammer. So as a tourist you will have fun.

Would I ever go back there? Unfortunately no – mainly because wife and kids will not be happy. Sofia is THE place in the country and as a city is quite shit to live in. In a way you are kind of forced to live there if you want to have access to stuff though. So for many reasons I cannot. Not that I want so much though anyway. But do go, will have fun time, I promise, and can do a lot.
